Australia is considering transferring retired Abrams tanks to Ukraine, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

The publication reports that the Australian government, in collaboration with the US, is developing a plan for this transfer. Previously, Defense Minister Richard Marles ruled out such a possibility but has now softened his stance.

The Ukrainian diaspora has expressed dissatisfaction with Canberra's refusal to send retired military equipment, including patrol vehicles and inflatable boats. Former Army chief Peter Leahy is surprised by the refusal to transfer the Abrams, stating, "It’s a reliable tank, with spare parts, so we should load them onto a ship and send them."

Former Defense official Michael Shoebridge added that the tanks are in "good condition" and should be delivered as soon as possible.
