Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church stated that Christians should not fear the end of the world, even in the context of nuclear weapons.

This was reported by the Russian media citing a statement by Kirill at a plenary session of the XXVI World Russian People's Assembly.

"Nuclear weapons should not cause fear, as Christians are not afraid of the end of the world. We await the Lord Jesus, who will come in great glory, destroy evil, and judge all nations," the Patriarch stated.

“The escalation of fear around possible apocalyptic scenarios, excessive alarmism, and speculation on the nuclear issue are not beneficial from a spiritual point of view. The enemy of humankind is trying to sow anxiety in people's hearts... for a person who is devoid of spiritual peace is easier to manipulate... We should not play into this,” he said.

Earlier in November, Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church suggested the potential implementation of the death penalty in Russia, stating that neither the Church nor Jesus Christ explicitly condemned it.
