Romania's President Calls on Parliament to Approve Establishment of Ukrainian Marine Training Center
On September 18, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis appealed to the parliament to approve the creation of a training center in the country for the training of Ukrainian marines.
This was reported by Euractiv news agency.
In a letter to Parliament, Iohannis emphasized recent developments in Russia's war against Ukraine, stating the importance of intensifying and diversifying the training of the Ukrainian armed forces.
This proposal was made within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format, which manages the mechanism aimed at strengthening Ukraine's maritime capabilities.
Romania will host a maritime training facility to support the training of Ukrainian naval infantry using its existing capabilities. Contributions from the international community will help maintain the facility's operations, while the UK will provide complete funding and planning assistance for its initial development.
The facility will operate for two years, subject to prior approval by military partners. Romania also retains the right to withdraw from its commitment at any time during the training process or upon the conclusion of the agreed period.
