Russian Missile Attack on Chernihiv Kills at Least 18 People, Injures 77

A Russian missile attack struck the city of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine. The strike killed at least 18 people and injured 77 others, including 3 children.

On the morning of April 17, three explosions were reported in the vicinity of the city’s center. Viacheslav Chaus, the Governor of Chernihiv Region, said Russians used three Iskander missiles to strike the city.

As of now, according to the Mayor of Chernihiv, Oleksandr Lomako, at least 18 are reported to be killed, and 77 injured. 16 buildings were damaged, including a hospital and a university building, dozens of cars were also damaged.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the families of the Russian attack victims, adding that the tragedy could have been avoided if Ukraine had received a sufficient amount of air defense systems.

“Terrorists can only destroy lives if they first intimidate those who can stop terror and save lives. Determination matters. Support matters,” wrote Zelenskyy.
