Russian forces may launch offensive operations in the Zaporizhzhia direction within a week, and are now conducting reconnaissance operations, RBK-Ukraine reported citing spokesperson for Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces Colonel Vladyslav Voloshyn on October 9.

“Regarding whether the Russians have already begun more active assaults in the Zaporizhzhia direction, near Robotyne and Pryiutne — they haven’t started these assaults yet,” Voloshyn said.

“However, Russian forces is already concentrating assault groups on the front lines.”

Voloshyn explained that the enemy is currently carrying out reconnaissance and search missions to identify Ukrainian positions and firing points.

“In the near future — around 3 to 5 days, or up to a week — the enemy will likely begin these assault operations with small infantry groups to seize certain positions and improve their tactical situation, altering the battlefront to their advantage,” he added.

He also noted that no large-scale offensive formations have been detected by Ukrainian intelligence at this time.

“Right now, the assault groups are being formed from the Russian units already operating in this area. Additionally, the enemy is creating units responsible for securing captured positions. These assault groups, consisting of small infantry units of 5 to 10 soldiers, will attempt assaults, followed by reinforcement units that will hold the captured positions,” Voloshyn said.

Earlier, Voloshyn reported that Russia is likely preparing for assault operations in the Zaporizhzhia direction, aiming to completely occupy the Donetsk region, as well as the city of Zaporizhzhia.
