Russia to Ban Bitcoin Mining in Occupied Regions of Ukraine, Chechnya and Other Regions
The Russian government is preparing to impose restrictions on cryptocurrency mining in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine like Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, effective December 1, 2024, as part of a broader effort to address energy shortages, reported Russian Kommersant media on November 15.
The measures, which could last until 2031 in certain areas, aim to deter both industrial and domestic mining operations in regions facing critical energy deficits.
Mining activities in regions such as Irkutsk, Buryatia, and Zabaykalsky Krai will be prohibited during winter peaks from November 15 to March 15 annually, until 2031.
Additionally, a total ban will apply in regions including Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, North Ossetia, Ingushetia, Chechnya, and Dagestan.
Previously, the Russian State Duma passed a law, prohibiting the adoption of Russian children by citizens of countries where “gender transition” is permitted. The State Duma deputies have also unanimously passed a bill to ban the “promotion of refusal to have children.”
