Russian Airstrike on Ukraine’s Sumy Region Leaves One Dead, Several Injured

On September 6, 2024, Russian forces carried out an airstrike on the border region of Sumy Region, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.

According to the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, around 3:00 PM local time, Russian forces dropped three guided bombs on the civilian infrastructure in the village of Krasnopillia, Sumy district. The attack led to the death of a 66-year-old woman in her home and injured four others, including a 15-year-old girl. Approximately 15 private properties were damaged.

The incident is being investigated under Ukrainian law concerning violations of the rules of war and intentional killing, in accordance with Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, together with other law enforcement agencies, is documenting the consequences of the airstrike. The investigation is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Sumy Region.
