A recent report reveals that the Russian Embassy School in Notting Hill, London, has been incorporating military training into its curriculum. This includes lessons on assembling Kalashnikov rifles and throwing grenades. The school serves children of Russian diplomats and, reportedly, some individuals with ties to Russian intelligence.

According to The Times, the curriculum features a course on the “combat properties of the Kalashnikov assault rifle,” where students learn about the assembly and operation of the weapon. Additionally, physical education classes include exercises where students practice grenade-throwing techniques using tennis balls.

The school’s history lessons reportedly depict Ukraine as a “puppet of the West” aimed at “destabilizing” Russia. This portrayal aligns with the broader narrative of the Russian government.

Pupils returned to classes recently, marked by displays of the Russian national flag and singing of the national anthem. The school is located in close proximity to the Russian embassy and is led by Alexander Gusarov, the embassy’s deputy ambassador. Gusarov’s children are believed to be among the students.

In addition to military-themed classes, students are taught battlefield maneuvers, military signals, and first aid for combat situations. School activities also include competitive events like bandaging and crossbow shooting.

The institution operates under diplomatic exemptions and is not subject to the UK Department for Education’s oversight or inspections. This status also means that the school, unlike other educational establishments, is not monitored by the usual regulatory bodies.

Similar schools are found globally, with around 80 Russian embassy schools reported. Notably, a Russian school in Warsaw was closed last year by Polish authorities, an action condemned by the Kremlin as an “invasion.”
