Work on the Peace Summit Declaration is Complete, Says Ukraine’s Foreign Minister
The drafting of the final declaration for the Summit on Peace for Ukraine has been completed, with the text balanced and all of Ukraine’s key positions included, announced Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on the sidelines of the Summit on Peace for Ukraine, currently underway in Switzerland.
“As of now, the work on the text is finished. At the end of the summit, the presidents will announce the approval of the resolution, which will be a declaration open for other countries to join after the summit concludes,” Kuleba said.
He mentioned that several countries are currently conducting an “internal review by a joint committee” and plan to join, even though they are not present at the summit.
“The text of the declaration is balanced, and all our fundamental positions, which Ukraine insisted upon, have been included,” Kuleba stated.
The Minister noted that the essence of global diplomacy is that every country has the right to express its position.
“We hear everyone, and the President of Ukraine emphasized this in his opening address. This is not the kind of event that Russia likes, where everyone gathers to speak in unison. It is through such open dialogue that we can reach the right decisions,” he said.
Kuleba emphasized that the Ukrainian government understands that “there will come a moment when we will need to talk to Russia.”
“But our position is very clear. We will not allow Russia to speak in the language of ultimatums, as it does now,” the Minister asserted.
The Summit on Peace for Ukraine, taking place on 15-16 June 2024 at the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland, aims to advance the Ukrainian peace formula and other UN Charter-based proposals, fostering dialogue on achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace.
