Zelenskyy: US Security Agreement Includes the Supply of Patriot Systems and the Procurement of Squadrons of Aircraft
On June 13, at the G7 Summit, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated, that the security agreement between Ukraine and the United States includes the supply of Patriot systems.
“The agreement has good provisions on weapons for our defense, where specifically on the Patriot systems, where specifically on the supply of fighter squadrons to Ukraine. That’s right — plural — squadrons including, but not limited to F-16s. We have worked for a long time for this,” Zelenskyy said during his speech.
The text of the agreement stated:
“The United States will support Ukraine in developing a layered and integrated air and missile defense system, in particular, building upon the Patriot system. It will coordinate with Ukraine, and work principally through an allied consortium, on the modernization of Ukraine’s Air Force, including working toward procurement of squadrons of modern fighter aircraft of the fourth generation (including but not limited to F-16s), and assist in the development of other capabilities, including UAVs.”
Earlier, at the Summit, Zelenskyy and Joe Biden signed a historical bilateral agreement, emphasizing their call for Europe to maintain its commitment to the ongoing fight against Russia.
