In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, five individuals have been arrested in Spain for their involvement in the sexual exploitation of refugees from Ukraine, according to Europol.

The criminal group, active in Spain since 2020, lured victims with false promises of refugee visas, financial support, and employment opportunities. However, these promises were a facade, as the victims were ultimately forced into prostitution.

The victims, primarily Ukrainian women, along with some Belarusian citizens, were deceived by the perpetrators who offered no legitimate employment contracts. The detained organizers of the trafficking ring include a Spanish citizen, two Russian citizens, and two Ukrainians. Authorities have successfully released fourteen women from the exploitation network.
