15 Cats Evacuated From Snake Island by Ukrainian Intelligence
On November 26, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense (HUR) reported that members of the "Tymur Special Unit" had successfully evacuated 15 cats from Snake Island (Zmiinyi Island).
“As winter approaches, the harsh cold is making survival difficult for the numerous cats and kittens that call Snake Island home. To ensure their safety, the animals were carefully transported to one of Ukraine's largest animal shelters, ‘Sirius,’” HUR wrote.
The rescue operation was supported by the MacPaw Foundation .
The intelligence officers emphasized that after the rescued cats from the Snake Island undergo adaptation, anyone will have the opportunity to adopt them and provide long-term care through the "Sirius" shelter.
"The head of the intelligence service, as is well known, loves animals: he has cats Günter and Zmiy, a frog named Petro, and canaries. In April 2022, after the deoccupation of Kyiv region, MacPaw Foundation volunteers were the first to deliver food and all necessary supplies for animal care to the 'Sirius' shelter," the intelligence officers noted.
Earlier on October 5, Ukrainian Border Guards (DPSU) have released exclusive footage of the battles fought for gas production platforms near Snake Island in the Black Sea.
