The Guardian has released its annual list of the top films of the year, featuring 2000 Meters to Andriivka, a documentary by Ukrainian Oscar-winning filmmaker Mstyslav Chernov.
According to the ranking, the film placed second in the British outlet’s ranking of the 50 best films of 2025.

In the accompanying commentary, the publication highlighted the documentary as a “heartwrenching follow-up to 20 Days in Mariupol,” in which photojournalist Chernov chronicles the brutal and exhausting counteroffensive of Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade.
At the same time, 2000 Meters to Andriivka was selected in the Best Documentary Feature category. Although Ukraine also submitted the film for consideration as Best International Feature Film, it did not advance in that category.

The documentary follows a Ukrainian platoon tasked with moving through a heavily fortified forest zone to reclaim a strategically significant village from Russian forces. Filmed from the perspective of a journalist embedded with the unit, the story traces the soldiers’ progression deeper into a devastated landscape, culminating in a sobering conclusion that the war may have no clear end.
Earlier, it was reported that Mstyslav Chernov’s 2000 Meters to Andriivka was selected by the US National Society of Film Critics as one of the five best documentary films of 2025.
