Ahead of Trump Summit, Xi Jinping and Putin Talk US-Russia Relations and Ukraine

Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, according to a South China Morning Post (SCMP) report on August 8.
The conversation took place ahead of an expected summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump. Putin briefed Xi on recent communications with the US, expressing Russia's readiness to maintain close contact with China.
Xi reportedly welcomed ongoing dialogue between Russia and the US, supporting better US-Russia relations and encouraging progress toward a political solution to the war in Ukraine.

Xi emphasized that complex issues do not have simple solutions and reiterated China's commitment to facilitating talks to resolve regional conflicts, according to SCMP.
Previously, it was reported that the Russian leader Vladimir Putin is unlikely to comply with US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire ultimatum and remains committed to seizing full control of four Ukrainian regions, according to Reuters.
In the past it was stated that, for the first time, China had deployed a submarine to Russia as part of joint naval exercises, underscoring the expanding military cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese naval group had arrived at Vladivostok to participate in the Joint Sea 2025 drills, according to Army Recognition Group.
