AI-Powered Drone Swarms to Revolutionize Warfare, Ukraine’s Digital Minister Reveals

This year, the world will see how swarms of drones controlled by artificial intelligence operate, according to Mykhailo Fedorov, the head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Affairs. Speaking at the BRAVE1 forum, Fedorov revealed that a dozen companies are already working on this technology, making the prospect of AI-controlled drone swarms a reality in the near future, according to “We-Ukraine” on February 21.
Bureaucratic obstacles are being removed at the legislative level, and grants will be provided to support the initiative, Mykhailo Fedorov clarified.
“We will launch it very quickly. The president set the task of finding funds six months ago, so they have already been allocated, a program has already been developed, and we will soon announce publicly that companies involved in gunpowder can join this project,” Fedorov said.
He also emphasized that the licensing requirements will ensure safe production conditions, with manufacturing sites located away from residential areas.
Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine will need tens of thousands of uncrewed robotic ground vehicles (UGVs) next year to transport ammunition and supplies and evacuate wounded soldiers from the frontlines. Fedorov added, “We might see the first real drone swarm uses, though not on a massive scale. The first steps will happen,” he said.
