A US citizen who provided intelligence to Russian military forces has been relocated from a Ukrainian-controlled region to Russian-occupied territories, according to the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People's Republic”  (DPR) defense headquarters.

"Russian special services, together with units from the 36th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade of the Russian Ministry of Defense, carried out an operation to evacuate a valuable operational source—the US citizen who played a key role in preparing for the assault on the village of Bohoyavlenka in the Ugledar [Vuhledar - Ukrainian] direction," the statement released by the “DPR” defense headquarters.

According to the headquarters, “The US citizen had been in Ukraine for two years during the special military operation , providing Russia with valuable intelligence that enabled precise strikes against the enemy while minimizing damage to civilian infrastructure and the local population.”

Currently, "the issue of granting political asylum and citizenship in Russia is being considered," the headquarters reported.

Previously on September 20, Russia’s Investigative Committee announced that Russell Bentley, an American pro-Kremlin fighter who participated in Russia’s war against Ukraine in 2014 and was killed under previously unclear circumstances, was tortured to death by Russian soldiers.

Occupational puppet regime established by the Russian Federation in the occupied territories of certain districts of Donetsk region in Ukraine. Proclaimed in 2014 by armed groups under the control and support of Russia. All UN member states, except for Russia, North Korea, and Syria, consider the territory claimed by the "DPR" as a sovereign part of Ukraine.
