Biden to Meet Zelenskyy in Normandy and Continue Talks at G7 Summit in Italy
US President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Normandy following the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, announced US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on June 4, 2024.
“In Normandy, Biden will have the opportunity to meet with President Zelenskyy and discuss the state of affairs in Ukraine and how we can deepen our support for Ukraine,” Sullivan stated. “In a few days, he will also have the opportunity to meet with President Zelenskyy again at the G7 summit in Italy.”
Biden flew to France on June 4 to honor the 80th anniversary of the Allied landing in Normandy and engage in discussions with President Emmanuel Macron. The event saw the participation of nearly 200 D-Day veterans from the United States, Great Britain, and Canada.
US President will then proceed to attend the Group of Seven (G7) meeting in Italy from June 13 to June 15, offering another occasion to confer with President Zelenskyy.
Earlier this week, Zelenskyy’s spokesperson, Serhii Nykyforov, confirmed Zelenskyy’s participation in the G7 meeting in Italy.
According to Nykyforov, the key topics of his negotiations will include further increasing Ukraine’s defense support, accelerating the supply of F-16 fighter jets, and strengthening Ukrainian air defense systems.
This year’s G7 Leaders' Summit will be chaired by Italy in Apulia from June 13-15.
