On March 11, Ukraine expressed its readiness to consider a U.S.-proposed 30-day temporary ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement if Russia also agrees and implements the terms simultaneously.
According to a joint statement published on the website of the President of Ukraine, the United States will communicate to Russia that mutual adherence to the ceasefire is essential for progress toward peace.
“Ukraine is open to steps toward de-escalation, but any agreement must be reciprocal,” the statement noted. “The effectiveness of a ceasefire depends on Russia’s commitment to the same conditions.”
