BRICS Summit Once Again Confirms Global Majority’s Support for Ukraine, Says Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine drew attention to Article 36 of the summit’s final declaration, which addresses the situation in Ukraine. In this section, BRICS members reaffirmed their national positions, commitment to the UN Charter, and their support for peaceful resolution and diplomacy. The document underscores that “all states should adhere to the Charter’s principles fully and consistently.”
While the declaration mentions various national positions on the war, it also references mediation efforts aimed at securing a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomatic means. This, according to the Ministry, further reflects Russia’s inability to export its views to BRICS nations. The Ministry stated, “This text effectively shows that Russia has failed to ‘export’ its neo-imperialist views to BRICS participants regarding changing the global order and security architecture through aggression against Ukraine.”
The Ministry concluded by asserting that the summit, which Russia aimed to use to divide the international community, instead reinforced the global majority’s support for Ukraine’s pursuit of “comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace” grounded in international law and respect for territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders. They added, “The BRICS summit, which Russia planned to use for dividing the world, only once again confirmed that the global majority remains on the side of Ukraine.”
