Ukrainian Commander Revealed Unique Operational Tactic for Magura V5 Naval Drones in New Interview
Ukrainian naval drones, specifically the Magura V5, have developed a unique operational strategy, according to an interview with the commander of the Ukrainian military intelligence unit “Group 13,” known by the call sign “Thirteenth.”
The commander explained that the primary role of the “hooligan” drone is to provoke the enemy, regardless of the target. This tactic is part of a broader strategy designed to disrupt and damage the Russian Navy.
Ukraine’s targeted strikes have significantly impacted the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Despite the destruction of several Russian ships, the fleet continues to operate at considerable cost. The commander of “Group 13” emphasized that while the fleet is effectively paralyzed, it still exists and remains a significant target. “It’s a constant game, like chess. The situation is changing rapidly, and technology is evolving just as fast,” he noted.
The Magura V5 drones, which were first introduced in April 2024, are designed to target Russian vessels. Notably, they have been successful in sinking the Russian ships Tsezar Kunikov and Tunets. These attacks are part of a broader effort by Ukraine to dominate the Black Sea region.
The Russian Black Sea Fleet has been severely weakened by Ukrainian strikes. A missile attack on the fleet’s headquarters in Sevastopol on September 22, 2023, resulted in the deaths of 34 Russian officers and left 105 injured.
