Sea Drones Target Russian Fleet Near Novorossiysk in Russia

Authors

Russian military officials reported that naval drones attacked the Russian fleet near Novorossiysk, Russia. The seaport of Novorossiysk is one of the largest and most important ports in Russia, located on the northeastern coast of the Black Sea in the city of Novorossiysk. The mayor of Novorossiysk, Andriy Kravchenko, confirmed the incident, stating, “Unmanned boats are being repelled in Novorossiysk… Do not stay in open areas near the sea,” in a Telegram message.

Later, Russian Ministry of Defense announced the destruction of two unmanned boats moving towards Novorossiysk. Similar drone attacks in the area were reported in May, with at least 35 explosions in Krasnodar Krai in Russia. Local authorities then reported the destruction of 10 drones.

Novorossiysk serves as a primary Russian port on the Black Sea and a naval base. Following drone and missile strikes on bases in Crimea, a portion of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet was relocated there.

Novorossiysk, a major Russian port on the Black Sea and a naval base, is approximately 400 kilometers across the sea from the Ukrainian coastline.

At the same time, Ukraine has been actively developing sea drones, in particular, the Sea Baby drone, developed by the Security Service of Ukraine during the Russian invasion, have proven to be a pivotal asset. These surface vessels have actively participated in combat operations in the Black Sea, causing damage to Russian ships and contributing to strategic disruptions, including the targeting of the Crimean Bridge
