Republican Party nominee Donald Trump announced on July 15 that he had chosen J.D. Vance, a US senator from Ohio, as his vice presidential running mate in the event of a victory.

Formally nominated by the Republican Party for the 2024 US presidential election, former President Trump stated:

"After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of vice president of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio."

Initially critical of Trump, Vance later became a staunch supporter during his Senate campaign.

Vance has voiced opposition to providing aid to Ukraine, stating in February 2024:

"Any peace settlement is going to require some significant territorial concessions from Ukraine, and you're gonna have a peace deal because that's the only way out of the conflict."

The senator has consistently advocated for halting US support to Ukraine in various statements.

Previously on July 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is prepared to cooperate with any political force in the United States, including the Republican Party, should it come to power.
