Drones attacked Kazan, the capital of Russia’s Tatarstan region, and the city of Engels in Saratov region, causing fires and industrial operational disruptions, according to Russian media outlet ASTRA on January 14.

Local residents and Telegram channels reported a major fire near the Kazan Orgsintez plant, a key manufacturer of high-strength plastics, located on the city’s northern outskirts.

Regional authorities in Tatarstan confirmed that the drone attack ignited a gas tank in a Kazan suburb, which was later extinguished. No casualties were reported, according to the press office of Tatarstan’s leader.

The incident prompted temporary flight restrictions at Kazan Airport. Rosaviatsia, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, also imposed restrictions on airports in Penza, Ulyanovsk, Kaluga, Tambov, and Saratov.

In Engels, Saratov region, drones targeted an industrial facility, igniting a fire. Residents told the Telegram channel Ostorozhno, Novosti that an oil depot caught fire following the strike. The facility, used to supply aviation fuel for Russian long-range bombers had been attacked on January 8, and that fire was extinguished only five days later.

Saratov regional governor Roman Busargin confirmed damage to two industrial enterprises but did not specify which facility was affected.

Additionally, in the Oryol region, Governor Andrey Klychkov reported that 17 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight, with no damage or casualties.

Tula region authorities stated that 16 drones were intercepted, while 14 were downed in Rostov region. No further details on the aftermath were provided.

Earlier, a storage facility for reconnaissance drones in Russia’s Rostov region was targeted using drones and a Neptune missile.
