European Parliament President Roberta Metsola arrived in Kyiv on Europe Day.

Her arrival was confirmed by Stefan Schleininge, Head of Cooperation Programmes at the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

“Ms. Metsola is here in the city,” he said in his address at the “European Civil Society Summit” in Kyiv.

Schleininge added that Ukrainians are “defending us, Europeans, and the European Union every day.” He congratulated Ukrainians on Europe Day and emphasized the importance of this holiday.

Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk soon published a photo of his meeting with Metsola at the Kyiv railway station.

Stefanchuk emphasized that the European Parliament has been at the forefront of supporting Ukraine.

“The European Parliament was the first EU institution to advocate for granting Ukraine candidate status for EU membership. The European Parliament has always had a strong voice in building an international coalition to support our fight for freedom and European values, in providing weapons to Ukraine, and in strengthening sanctions against Russia. And Ukraine will always appreciate that,” Stefanchuk said.

Metsola’s visit, which was symbolically scheduled for Europe Day, was not announced in advance, and the details remain unknown. This trip to Ukraine is likely her last as President of the European Parliament, as Europeans will be electing a new European Parliament in less than a month.
