On the night of July 24, on the Romanian-Ukrainian border air raid sirens blared in Romania’s Tulcea district. The RO-Alert emergency system warned residents of potential drone activity near the frontier, according to the Romanian news outlet.

Emergency services reported at least 10 calls following loud explosions heard in the area. While the source of the explosions remains unclear, it coincides with reported Russian drone strikes on the Ukrainian port city of Izmail, directly across the Danube River from Romania.

In the aftermath of the attack, a five-story residential building was damaged. Three residents were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Additionally, unverified footage circulating online appears to show an explosion near the Romanian village of Plauru.

Authorities have yet to confirm if the drones detected by RO-Alert were the same Shahed drones used by Russia in the Ukrainian attacks.

Unconfirmed reports on social media suggest debris from a drone may have landed in Romania, near the town of Plauru. Additionally, online users allege an unmanned UAV of the Shahed Geran-type strayed into Romanian airspace before detonating. These claims have not been substantiated and remain under investigation.

Social media further indicates Romanian F-16 fighter jets scrambled in response to the attacks. The Romanian Ministry of National Defense has yet to comment on the situation.

Officials are expected to provide further details in the coming hours.
