German Chancellor Hopes to Find More Air Defense for Ukraine
In a press conference, following the Special European Council summit in Brussels on April 18, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Ukraine needs more air defense systems to protect its critical infrastructure against Russian attacks.
“Germany has taken substantial measures to equip Ukraine” and now calls “on others to take similar decisions,” Scholz said.
Berlin announced on April 13 that it would provide Kyiv with an additional Patriot system, the third Patriot system from Germany.
“We have heard about 7 additional systems, one of these is ours, and we hope to find six more in the NATO context,” the Chancellor added.
Previously, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine needs 25 Patriot systems to cover all of Ukraine. But Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, told The Washington Post in an interview that Ukraine will focus now on obtaining 7 Patriot systems as quickly as possible.
