German Foreign Minister Open to Allowing Ukraine to Target Russia for Self-Defense
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock does not rule out allowing Ukraine to carry out self-defense strikes on military targets in Russia using German weapons.
This was reported on October 7 by Tagesschau.
Baerbock emphasized that Ukraine is not obliged to wait for an attack on its territory before defending itself.
"Ukraine's right to self-defense does not mean that a missile has to cross the border or hit a city like Kharkiv before it can defend itself. Even the best air defense cannot always prevent that." Baerbock said.
She emphasized the importance of preventive measures to stop future attacks, indicating that the destruction of launch sites could be a necessary measure. Burbok added that the scale of these actions will not be discussed publicly to avoid giving an advantage to the Russian military.
Previously, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed that he does not support easing restrictions on Ukraine's use of German weapons to strike Russian territory.
