Germany plans to deliver 60 additional guided missiles for Ukraine’s IRIS-T air defense systems to strengthen its protection against Russian attacks, the German news agency Deutsche Welle reported on January 15.
The €60 million shipment will be sourced from the Bundeswehr’s stockpiles and delivered in the near future.
The decision follows German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius’s visit to Kyiv on January 14, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Pistorius assured Zelenskyy of Germany’s continued support and expressed hope that Berlin could provide an additional €3 billion in assistance this year.
Over the last three weeks, Germany has delivered a range of military aid to Ukraine, as per information on the German government’s official website. These supplies include:
20 MRA armored vehicles.
600 HF-1 strike drones.
46 RQ-35 Heidrun UAVs.
43 Songbird UAVs.
50 Vector UAVs.
Additionally, Germany has provided firearms and ammunition, including 495 HK416 assault rifles, 11,000 120-mm mortar rounds, 19,000 122-mm shells, 14,000 155-mm shells, tank munitions, and spare parts for Leopard 1A5 tanks.
While in Kyiv, Pistorius highlighted Germany’s ongoing efforts to fulfill its latest aid package approved in 2024. This includes Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and other military equipment. Pistorius also confirmed that Germany and its partners are actively acquiring and refurbishing Leopard 1 tanks globally for deployment to Ukraine’s forces.
Earlier, German defense company Rheinmetall delivered its first KF41 Lynx infantry fighting vehicle to Ukraine.
