Deputy government spokesman Wolfgang Büchner stated in Berlin on November 18 that Germany had been informed in advance of US President Joe Biden's decision to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles against targets in Russian territory.

However, the German government has decided not to follow the US lead.

"It has no impact on the Chancellor's decision not to deliver Taurus," Büchner said, according to Regional Heute.

The rejection of Taurus cruise missile deliveries is primarily attributed to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, despite previous positive remarks from the Greens supporting such action, according to the publication.

On November 17, Germany’s Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck has promised to provide Ukraine with Taurus long-range cruise missiles if he becomes the country’s next chancellor.

Similarly, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed support for this position during remarks in Brussels on November 17.
