Harris Announces Governor Tim Walz, Who Actively Supports Ukraine, as Running Mate
Kamala Harris, selected by the Democratic Party to run in this year’s presidential election, has announced her choice for vice presidential candidate — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. She made this announcement on X (Twitter) during her first campaign event in key states.
Sixty-year-old Tim Walz, a US National Guard veteran, former teacher, and politician who began his career in 2006, has served as Minnesota’s governor since 2018. He has supported progressive initiatives in his state, including free school meals, climate change mitigation, and tax cuts for the middle class.
In addition to his political achievements, Walz is noted for his active support of Ukraine. Recently, he participated in signing a Memorandum of Understanding between Minnesota and Ukraine’s Chernihiv region in the agricultural sector. The agreement, signed at the Ukrainian Embassy in the U.S., reaffirms America’s continued support for Ukraine and represents a significant step towards the reconstruction of the Ukrainian region.
During the signing ceremony, Tim Walz expressed his support for the Ukrainian people and confirmed his commitment to opposing business dealings between Minnesota and Russia. He emphasized the importance of American experience and technology in rebuilding Ukraine after the war.
Walz is expected to help Kamala Harris appeal to working-class voters, especially in rural areas, which could be crucial for the election results.
Kamala Harris had to choose her vice presidential candidate under tight deadlines following President Joe Biden’s decision not to run for a second term. Recent polls show that her candidacy, along with Tim Walz’s support, allows her to strengthen her position among Democrats and increase mobilization among young, Black voters, and women.
