The 29th Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting on July 21, known as Ramstein, concluded with new pledges from partner nations to enhance Ukraine’s military capabilities. In his first appearance in the format as Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Denys Shmyhal outlined key decisions from the session and emphasized continued allied support.

“During the Ramstein-format meeting, we received an important signal: the free world stands with Ukraine and peace. Together with our partners, we focused on strengthening the defense potential of the Ukrainian army,” Shmyhal said in an official statement.

Among the key decisions made are:

🇺🇸 The United States announced the launch of a new mechanism in cooperation with NATO, enabling European countries to procure American weapons for Ukraine.

“European partners have already expressed readiness to join the financing,” Shmyhal noted, adding that the mechanism’s implementation was discussed in detail at the meeting.

🇩🇪 Germany will join the US-led initiative to provide Ukraine with five Patriot air defense systems, expected to arrive soon. In addition, Berlin will transfer over 200,000 rounds for Gepard air-defense platforms and fund the procurement of Ukrainian long-range drones.

🇨🇦 Canada confirmed its participation in the so-called Danish model  to support Ukraine’s defense industry, allocating around $14.6 million to maintain Ukrainian tanks.

🇳🇱 The Netherlands committed $218 million for interceptor drones and $136 million for F-16 maintenance.

🇳🇴 Norway announced a $1.09 billion drone procurement program for 2025, of which $436 million will go toward purchasing drones from Ukrainian manufacturers.

🇸🇪 Sweden is preparing a new aid package that includes air defense equipment, artillery, and other military hardware.

“I sincerely thank every country supporting Ukraine in the Ramstein format,” Shmyhal said. “Special thanks to the United States – the initiator of this platform in April 2022 – as well as to the United Kingdom and Germany for their leadership in the Contact Group. We continue working with partners, strengthening our army, and moving closer to a just and lasting peace.”

Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine launched a joint arms production initiative with allies at the 28th Ramstein-format Contact Group meeting, with key partners offering to build factories abroad and license production of missiles, drones, ammunition, and armored vehicles for Ukraine’s military.
