Key Outcomes of the 2024 Ramstein Meeting
At the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at Ramstein Air Base, several key commitments were made to support Ukraine’s defense efforts.
Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands are set to deliver 77 Leopard 1A5 tanks. The Leopard 1A5 is an upgraded version of the Leopard 1, originally introduced in the 1970s, featuring improved armor and fire control systems. This addition aims to enhance Ukraine’s armored capabilities in various combat scenarios.
The US has announced a new $250 million military aid package for Ukraine. While details of the aid are yet to be fully disclosed, this funding is intended to address Ukraine’s evolving military needs amid the ongoing war.
Canada will also contribute by providing engines and warheads for unguided air-to-ground missiles. This support will assist Ukraine in targeting military sites more effectively, amid the ongoing missile attacks by Russia.
Additionally, Germany has pledged to send 12 more Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, valued at €150 million. These howitzers, capable of firing at distances over 30 kilometers, will be delivered in two phases: six this year and six next year. They are expected to significantly bolster Ukraine’s artillery capabilities.
