Various Lithuanian ministries and institutions are developing plans for the mass evacuation of civilians in case of a military conflict.

This was reported by the Lithuanian Interior Ministry on Thursday after reaching an agreement on the allocation of responsibilities for preparing the evacuation plan.

Earlier in July, the Interior Ministry provided briefings to the country's municipalities on the evacuation concept and requested that they evaluate their capacities and needs for its implementation within six weeks.

The Lithuanian Interior Ministry stated last month that municipalities should be able to relocate a quarter of the country's population, prioritizing individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, and families with young children.

Agnė Bilotaitė, the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, also mentioned that the evacuation plan should encompass international transfers and noted that discussions are underway with neighboring countries.

Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Lithuania has opted to develop distinct evacuation plans for both peacetime and wartime.
