Mexico Refuses Ukraine’s Request to Arrest Putin if He Visits Presidential Inauguration
The current president of Mexico rejected Ukraine’s request to arrest Vladimir Putin if he would attend the inauguration of the newly elected Mexican president in October.
“We can’t do that. It’s not up to us,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated during a press conference.
It is worth noting that the Sheinbaum team invited Putin to attend the inauguration, stating earlier this week that it had sent a “diplomatic message” to all countries with which Mexico maintains diplomatic relations. The report emphasized that while Russia is not a member of the ISS, Mexico is.
The publication also notes that in June, Putin congratulated Sheinbaum, an ally of López Obrador, on her election victory, calling Mexico “a historically friendly partner of Russia in Latin America.”
