Missing Ukrainian 9-Year-Old Girl Valeriia Found Dead, Police Investigation Is Ongoing

The Ukrainian girl Valeriia who has been missing for a week was found dead on Tuesday, June 11, in a forest near Döbeln, Germany.

On June 3, the girl left home at 6:50 am as usual, but she never showed up at school, the police report said. It’s still unclear whether the girl used a bus as usual.

The German news outlet MDR reported the autopsy of the body revealed that it does belong to the nine-year-old Valeriia. According to preliminary data, there is no evidence of a sexual crime. So far, there is no trace of the perpetrator.

“We will make every effort to identify the perpetrator. We owe this to Valeriia and her family,” said Carsten Kaempf, Chemnitz Police Chief.

The body was found in a densely wooded area, distant from any trails. The precise time of death remains undetermined.

According to the police, a witness came forward last week who claimed to have heard screams in the forest area on the day of Valeriia’s disappearance, where the body was found later.

Valeria came to Germany from Ukraine and has lived there with her mother since 2022.

The investigation is still ongoing.

This comes following a series of murders of Ukrainians that happened in Germany likely motivated by hate.
