NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned that in the event of Russian aggression, the Alliance’s response would be “devastating.”

Speaking at a briefing in Brussels on February 12, Rutte addressed concerns raised by European intelligence agencies regarding the possibility of a Russian attack saying, “If Putin attacks NATO, the reaction will be devastating, he will lose. Let him not try, he knows it.”

When asked why NATO was not better prepared for what some reports describe as an “inevitable” confrontation, he emphasized that the Alliance takes such warnings seriously and remains fully equipped to respond.

Kaupo Rozin, Director General of the Estonian Foreign Intelligence Service, recently suggested that Moscow is seeking to exploit shifts in the international landscape to regroup before pursuing further aggression.

Earlier, on February 11, Denmark’s Defense Intelligence Agency warned that if the war in Ukraine ends or stalls without NATO reinforcing its defenses, Russia could be prepared for a large-scale war in Europe within five years.
