NATO has obtained evidence of North Korean military forces being deployed in Russia, a development that is raising concerns about the potential involvement of these troops in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The confirmation came from NATO spokesperson Farah Dakhlallah, as cited by Politico.

According to Dakhlallah, members of the alliance have verified the deployment of North Korean forces within Russia. She emphasized that if these troops are intended to fight in Ukraine, it would mark a significant escalation in North Korea’s support for Russia’s illegal war and further highlight the substantial losses Russia has sustained on the battlefield.

NATO allies are currently engaged in consultations regarding this development and are awaiting further information from South Korea, which is also monitoring the situation closely. South Korean officials have reported that North Korea has already sent around 3,000 soldiers to Russia, with plans to deploy up to 10,000 by December.

Earlier, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed that there is evidence of North Korean forces present in Russia, although their specific role remains unclear.
