NATO-Ukraine Council to Convene for Defense Talks

NATO-Ukraine Council meeting will take place on Friday to focus on Kyiv’s urgent needs, at Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s request.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced this at a press conference in Brussels on April 17 after meeting with the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands, Denmark and the Czech Republic.

“President Zelenskyy has asked for a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council. We will convene the meeting on Friday,” Stoltenberg said.

According to Stoltenberg, the NATO-Ukraine Council will meet at the level of defense ministers “to discuss the urgent needs for more support to Ukraine,” and will also be attended by Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“In particular, I expect discussions on air defense, as well as artillery shells in continuation of the Czech initiative, which was supported by the Netherlands and Denmark,” the NATO Secretary General added.

Previously Zelenskyy, after a meeting of the Supreme Command Headquarters, stated that Western countries can help Ukraine defend itself from Russian attacks in the same way as Israel does from Iranian strikes.
