North Korean Soldier Captured by Ukraine Asks to Watch Romance Shows After Failed Escape
Ukrainian Air Assault Forces captured a North Korean soldier during combat operations, revealing an unusual series of events following his capture, according to the press service of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces on January 21.
According to the soldiers, the incident occurred after North Korean units ceased assaults on Ukrainian positions. A drone operator noticed a man moving on the battlefield.
“We went to check it out, thinking it might be one of our own soldiers,” said one paratrooper. “But as we got closer, we noticed narrow eyes, unfamiliar uniforms, and armor that wasn’t ours. He didn’t respond to Russian, English, or Ukrainian.”
The captured soldier was carrying a grenade, a knife, and some sausage for food. Initially calm, he became agitated when led to the evacuation point.
“When we brought him near the road, he suddenly ran headfirst into a concrete pole,” one soldier recounted. “He hit it hard, then fell backward, not forward as you’d expect. I think he was faking it, trying to get us close so he could grab a weapon and attack us.”
Despite his behavior, the soldier was treated well after capture. “Our comrades told us they gave him aid, fed him, and even played romance shows at his request,” the paratrooper said.
Earlier, a diary belonging to a North Korean soldier was recovered by Ukrainian Special Operations Forces. The diary includes sketches outlining tactics for capturing drones and records pledges of unwavering loyalty to Kim Jong Un.
