Olena Zelenska to Meet Melania Trump During UN General Assembly in New York This September

Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska announced that she will meet US First Lady Melania Trump during the UN General Assembly in New York at the end of September, My-Ukraine reported via Telegram on September 8.
Melania Trump had received an invitation to attend the “Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen” in Ukraine but will not be present.
“But we are planning a meeting during the UN General Assembly in New York at the end of this month. I believe the topics discussed today in Kyiv will also be on the agenda in New York,” Zelenska said.
The announcement comes shortly after it was revealed that Melania Trump has taken a personal step on one of the war’s most sensitive humanitarian issues. According to Reuters, the US First Lady had directly appealed to Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding Ukrainian children taken from occupied territories.

Her handwritten letter was delivered to Putin by President Donald Trump during his nearly three-hour meeting with the Russian leader in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15. Officials confirmed the message focused on the fate of children forcibly removed from Ukraine.
A senior US official told Reuters that the letter was a “personal initiative” of the First Lady, who has not been directly involved in the administration’s foreign policy but wanted to draw attention to the humanitarian toll of the war.
Earlier, it was reported that US President Donald Trump indicated he is prepared to tighten sanctions on Russia over its war against Ukraine, telling reporters he is ready to move into a “second phase” of punitive measures and intends to speak with Vladimir Putin “very soon.”
