Poland Scrambles Fighter Jets in Response to Russian Strikes on Ukraine

Early morning on May 8, Poland activated its fighter jets following reports of large-scale Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian territory.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces took to Twitter (X) to announce the deployment, cautioning residents in the southeastern part of the country to expect increased aircraft noise.

By 7 AM, the operation concluded, with military personnel returning to regular duties.

Such actions have become standard practice in recent months, triggered by significant Russian air assaults on Ukraine, particularly increased attacks in the Western regions of Ukraine.

In the past, Russian missiles have violated Polish airspace several times while en route to targets in Ukraine. However, Polish air forces did not intercept them.

Poland has stated that it would shoot down Russian missiles if there were indications that they were heading towards a target on Polish territory.
