Polish border guards have uncovered a tunnel several dozen meters long, which allowed over 180 migrants from Belarus to enter the country.

As reported by the Border Guard of Poland on December 12, the tunnel, located under the Polish-Belarusian border, was discovered on December 11 near Narewka in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.

The entrance was about 50 meters from the Belarusian side, while the exit was just 10 meters from the Polish border barrier. The tunnel’s height is around 1.5 meters.

On December 11, more than 180 foreign nationals crossed the tunnel, with 130 of them being apprehended. Efforts to locate other migrants are still ongoing.

Border Guard spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrzej Juzwiak stated that the operation involved not only border guards but also military forces, police, and service dogs. The migrants using the tunnel were mostly from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

The Border Guard emphasized that this marks the fourth tunnel discovered this year along the Polish-Belarusian border in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.

Earlier, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginene stated that the government will declare a state of emergency next week in response to the public safety threats posed by smuggled balloons arriving from Belarus.
