Polish Fighter Jets Intercept Russian Su-24 Over Baltic Sea Following NATO Alert

Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian Su-24 bomber conducting unsafe maneuvers in international airspace over the Baltic Sea on May 22, according to Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
According to RMF24, speaking at a press conference on May 23, Kosiniak-Kamysz said NATO’s Joint Operations Command ordered the interception after the Russian aircraft was detected performing what he described as “deliberate and threatening” actions.
Polish pilots successfully located, intercepted, and pushed the Russian bomber out of the area, the minister confirmed.

Kosiniak-Kamysz also addressed the growing number of airspace provocations near NATO borders, citing the Kaliningrad region as a frequent point of origin for Russian aircraft operating without transponders, flight plans, or radio contact with air traffic control.
“We remain resilient in the face of provocations, but we respond decisively, both independently and as part of the Alliance,” he stated.
Earlier, Russia had developed a new nuclear-capable air-to-air missile intended for use with its MiG and Su-series fighter aircraft, according to a newly released assessment by the US Defense Intelligence Agency.
