Russia Amasses 300 Boats in Push to Capture Islands Near Kherson, Says Ukrainian Armed Forces
Russian forces continue their assaults in the Kherson direction, with 7 attacks recorded in the past day, focusing on securing positions in the island area. Reports indicate that Russia has prepared 300 boats to launch operations in the area.
This was reported by Suspilne, citing Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Defense Forces of Ukraine's South.
"Their goal is to seize a specific foothold, hold it, and draw as many of our forces and resources there as possible. However, all these assaults end in failure. They yield no results, and the enemy only suffers losses," Voloshyn stated.
According to Voloshynm, citing the intelligence, Russian forces are currently training assault units specialized in crossing water obstacles. These exercises are taking place at training grounds located in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
"They are involving boats from the so-called Dnipro Flotilla, a division of which was relocated to the Tendrivska and Kinburn Spits earlier this fall. They are practicing elements such as crossing water obstacles and transporting landing groups, specifically for assaults and crossings by small infantry units," Voloshyn added.
Additionally, Voloshyn stated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are aware of the presence of 300 boats and remain fully prepared to respond to any potential developments.
"Ukraine conducts active reconnaissance on an ongoing basis. This includes not only satellite or drone intelligence but also a variety of other reconnaissance methods," Voloshyn stated.
At the end of October, the Armed Forces reported that they controlled most of the islands in the Kherson region. However, Russian forces are trying daily to capture the lodgment on the right bank of the Dnipro river.
