Russia Deploys Chemical Warfare in Donetsk Region as Assault on Chasiv Yar Continues
In an attempt to capture the village of Ocheretyne in the Donetsk Region, Russians are using chemical substances. This was reported on April 23 by Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesman for Ukraine’s Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group.
According to Voloshyn, the situation in the area of Ocheretyne is difficult: in an effort to capture the village, the enemy is using the entire available arsenal of weapons against the Ukrainian units, including “chemical substances”, and is trying to gain a foothold in the southern part of Ocheretyne.
Ocheretyne village is located 50 kilometers away from Chasiv Yar, a strategically important city in the East of Ukraine. It is currently being stormed by around 20,000-25,000 Russian troops. Nazar Voloshyn said this on air of “Suspilne. Studio” on April 22.
“In the area opposite Chasiv Yar, Russian paratroopers from the 217th Parachute Regiment of the 98th Parachute Airborne Division of Russia are fighting against us. Around 20,000-25,000 Russian servicemen are trying to storm Chasiv Yar and the outskirts of the settlements near it,” said Nazar Voloshyn.
Russia is currently carrying out assault operations without securing positions. The spokesman stated that it’s the Russian’s way of conducting reconnaissance and calculating the weak points of the Defense Forces to strike later. He added that the situation is difficult, but is fully controlled by the Ukrainian Forces.
