Russia Destroys and Damages Almost 1000 Ukrainian Libraries Since Beginning of Full-Scale Invasion
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian forces have destroyed or damaged almost 1000 libraries.
This was reported by the Ukraine’s language Ombudsman on All-Ukrainian Day of Libraries, September 30.
“During the full-scale invasion, almost a thousand libraries were destroyed or damaged by Russian criminals, and with them, more than 200 million Ukrainian books,” the Ombudsman wrote. “Our goal is to renew library funds as much as possible and to approve this as a state priority.”
Destroying libraries is only one of Russia’s ways of destroying the Ukrainian heritage. On May 7, 2022, the Russian forces destroyed the National Museum of Hryhorii Skovoroda with a direct missile hit.
