Russia Expands Military-Patriotic Training for Children in Temporarily Occupied Part of Kherson Region

Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation stated that Russia-installed education officials in occupied parts of Ukraine’s Kherson region had signed a cooperation agreement with the Russian youth movement Yunarmiya to promote “military-patriotic education” and pre-conscription training for children, according to a Telegram post on January 2.
The agency said the document formally sets out joint activity on military-patriotic upbringing and pre-draft preparation and amounts to the systematic involvement of minors in Russia’s militarized culture.

It said occupation-linked resources reported that more than 250 young residents of the region had been brought into the organization and described as “future defenders of Russia.”
In a separate statement, Yunarmiya’s Kherson branch said it had concluded a cooperation agreement with the “Ministry of Education and Science of the Kherson region” and that the parties would work together on military-patriotic upbringing and pre-conscription training for children and youth.

The same post said the movement in the region already numbered more than 250 “young patriots” and that in 2025 it opened four local branches and formed seven Yunarmiya units.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian occupation authorities in Kherson were using youth organizations and “patriotic” programs to recruit and indoctrinate thousands of Ukrainian children.
