Ukrainian officials reported on Monday that Russian forces are concentrating their most intense attacks around Pokrovsk, a strategic city in the Donetsk region. This intensified offensive is targeting a major Ukrainian supply route.

Pokrovsk direction has recently seen the most amount of assaults, with Ukraine’s Armed Forces repelling 52 assaults in the last 24 hours (reported on the morning of July 29).

"As of today, the city is 20 km (12 miles) from the front line," said Serhii Dobriak, Head of the Pokrovsk’s military administration.

Pokrovsk is a transportation hub situated on a key road that functions as a vital supply route to other embattled Ukrainian-held outposts, including the cities of Chasiv Yar and Kostiantynivka.

According to Dobriak, 60,000 people remain in the city, of which 4,000 are children, and another 4,000 children were evacuated. More than 500 people are evacuated from the city every month.

In his July 28 daily address, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the situation on the battlefield is the most intense in the Pokrovsk direction.

“It is extremely challenging in the Donetsk directions, and it is in the Pokrovsk direction that there have been the biggest number of Russian assaults these weeks – the most intense enemy attacks are precisely there. Everyone who stops these Russian strikes and destroys this Russian offensive potential is performing one of the most important missions in this war,” Zelenskyy said.
