Overnight Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities left one person dead and at least eight injured, according to national and regional authorities on October 6. The strikes targeted civilian areas and critical infrastructure across several regions, including Zaporizhzhia region.

The State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported one fatality in the Zaporizhzhia region, where a man’s body was recovered from the rubble after a strike destroyed part of a building.

“Rescuers found and recovered the body of a man from under the rubble,” the agency said, adding that a shop was also destroyed and a fire broke out in a residential house, later extinguished by firefighters.

Zelenskyy said the attacks once again demonstrated Moscow’s intent to cripple Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure. He urged the US, Europe, and the G7 to strengthen sanctions against Russia’s energy trade and financial sector.

“The fact that the Russians continue to strike at energy and at civilians once again shows that the pressure is not enough now,” he said.

“It is absolutely fair that the aggressor’s money works to defend against its war.”

Earlier, it was reported that three Ukrainian nuclear plants were forced to reduce output due to Russian strikes on the country’s energy infrastructure, prompting warnings from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about nuclear safety.
