In the early hours of May 18, Russia conducted a record drone strike on Ukraine, launching 273 drones from five directions, including Russia’s Bryansk, Kursk, and Oryol regions, as well as from the areas of Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 88 Shahed-type drones were intercepted, while 128 decoy drones were neutralized or failed to reach their targets.

The Kyiv region was among the most heavily affected areas. According to the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, a woman born in 1997 was killed in Obukhiv district.

Three others were injured: a 61-year-old man, a 59-year-old woman, and a 4-year-old child. All were hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The strike partially destroyed a private residence and damaged windows in a nearby multi-story building. In Fastiv district, fires broke out following damage to a 500-square-meter warehouse and an adjacent utility building. A separate fire engulfed a 5,000-square-meter medical facility.

In Kyiv, air defense systems were activated overnight. According to State Emergency Service, drone debris damaged the roof of a non-residential building in Holosiivskyi district. No casualties were reported in the capital. In Solomianskyi district, window glazing in a residential building was damaged.

In addition to drones, Ukrainian forces reported that Russia launched three ballistic missiles—two Iskander-M and one KN-23—from occupied Crimea.

Earlier on May 17, a Russian Lancet drone struck an evacuation bus near Bilopillia in Sumy region, killing nine civilians and injuring at least four others. According to local authorities, the bus was evacuating people from the front-line town when it was deliberately targeted. Most of the victims were elderly women.
